We had a great time on our swing through Virginia Beach this past weekend. Friday night at Froggie’s was its usual, packed house and a lot of fun. We had a nice guest visit by Sandy Martin who sat in with us on a tune. After loading out, driving home, and going to bed, it felt like we got to sleep about five minutes before it was time to make an appearance at Catch 31 at the ocean front. This one was a blast, too – the rains held off and there were people everywhere for this one. Thanks to all our friends who came out to hang with us. We’ll be back at Catch 31 in August.
This week Johnny and Dave are at The Aloft on Tuesday, Johnny and John are at Mario’s on Wednesday, and the full band returns to The Barrel on Friday.
What a wild ride this weekend was. We were really disappointed when we found out on Thursday that the Greenbrier Town Center concert was going to have to be called off due to the hurricane visit we had from Arthur. Then, out of thin air, we got the opportunity to fill that void by playing in a club we had never palyed as The Baddadz – Scandals in Virginia Beach. I can tell you that after many, many years as a musician, cancellations happen, and you roll with the punches. It almost never works out that you are able to replace the cancelled gig on the same day! So we were double lucky in that we got a replacement gig, and then we got to play someplace new, which is always a blast. Top that off with a visit from Mitch Barrett, and that ended up being a really special night. Thanks again not only to the good folks at Scandals, but to the many friends that traveled out there to see us.
Sunday was another debut day, as we played for The Eagle’s Nest in Chesapeake for the first time. Our friends REALLY showed up in force for this gig, thank you all for coming out to support us. What a gorgeous day for a patio gig! The management and staff at ‘The Nest” were really great to us, and once again we had a really special drop by set from the reunited Southern Blend. Great vocals from these guys and they played a killer set of music for everyone.
Special kudos to our own Dave Greene, who played on very little sleep Friday after some serious storm repairs he had to manage for Cox Cable on Friday, and then because of our late booking for Sunday he had to give up a planned golf day in order to make the gig.
We left both new gigs with the feeling that we would absolutely be back soon, and we would welcome that, we had a great time at both venues, and made some new friends on the way. We hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!
This is going to be a very busy week for us. John and Johnny are at Mario’s on Wednesday, Michael and Johnny are at The Icehouse on Thursday, The Baddadz return to Stan’s American Bistro on Friday, and then Michael is at Sunset Grill on Saturday.
The Baddadz make their debut at The Eagle’s Nest in Chesapeake today from 3pm-7pm. We’ll be playing on the patio and there will be pit BBQ and other good eats. As this is our first time there we would love to see a lot of your friendly faces out there enjoying the beautiful weather with us. The Eagle’s Nest is located at 1723 Parkview Dr, Chesapeake, VA 23320 in the Parkview Center, between Military Highway and I-64 off of Greenbrier Rd.. Plenty of parking as well as indoor and outdoor seats around the band. Come spend your Sunday afternoon with The Baddadz!
What a treat we had last night, when Mitch Barrett, in town for his house concert tonight (Sat. July 5) at 2648 Shorehaven Drive, Virginia Beach 23454, not only came out to listen, but joined Johnny Bland on stage for a couple of songs. It’s such a joy to see him whenever he’s here from Kentucky. We go back some 20 years now. That’s a lot of road, a lot of songs. He’s absolutely one of the special folks you get to know along the way.
It was our first night in Scandals, and to see so many friends make the trip from all over Tidewater meant a lot to us. THANK YOU! We hope to be back there again in the not too distant future.
We’re off tonight, celebrating the 4th with friends and family, then tomorrow we make another debut, this time at The Eagle’s Nest in Chesapeake from 3-7 pm. They’re having a pig pickin’, so come on an empty stomach. They have a wonderful patio and Sunday is supposed to be a gorgeous afternoon.
As always, thanks again to all of you for your support and friendship. Happy holiday weekend to all.
We’re just about finished with this hurricane Arthur business, and just as soon as we get out of these wet clothes we’re going to saddle up the mules and make our way out to Scandals in Va. Beach where we will be playing tonight from 8:30-12:30. This is our first visit to Scandals and we’re looking forward to showing all the good people there just how the Baddadz do things! Scandals is located at 3501 Holland Rd, has a great staff and a really nice stage. We hope you’ll join us tonight for some post-Arthur food, fun and music!
