There’s a lot going on for the Baddadz this week. On Wednesday Johnny B makes his weekly appearance at Mario’s, where he’s usually joined by John Fautheree. Great food and drink specials all night.
On Thursday, Michael returns to the Sunset Grill in Norfolk from 7-10 pm. Great views of Willoughby along with amazing food make this a special place.
On Friday the full band is back at Froggie’s Cantina in Virginia Beach and on Saturday we return to Jerry’s of Chesapeake.
Many thanks to everyone that came out to spend some time with us this last Friday at Froggie’s Cantina. When the worst thing that you can say about a gig is that there’s no place to park, well, how bad can that be?! We had a blast, and hope that you did, too.
March is going to be busy for the Baddadz. Each Wednesday Johnny Bland is at Mario’s with John Fautheree sitting in. This Friday, the full band will be at Mario’s. On the 13th, Michael will be solo at Sunset Grill. The full band returns to Froggie’s on the 14th, and on the 15th we’ll be back at Jerry’s in Chesapeake. On March 21 we’ll be at The Barrel in Churchland and then on March 28 the Baddadz will make their debut at Stan’s American Bistro in Chesapeake. Feels like summer’s coming!
The Baddadz will play a special guest set tonight at Stan’s American Bistro in Virginia Beach. We’ve heard wonderful things about this venue and we’re looking forward to dropping by to play a few tunes tonight.
Yesterday, we got the terribly sad news that Michael McCarthy, long time percussionist with Lewis McGehee, had passed away silently, in his sleep. I first met Michael some thirty years ago, at Reisner’s in Norfolk. He was an absolute joy to be around and to talk music, and life with. Michael became a very spiritual man over the years, and settled in with his partner Nanette some seven years ago.
I can’t think of a more peaceful, natural way to leave this earth than to simply go to sleep one night, and I’m glad that was his way of passing. Still, the shock of sudden absence that is left behind for family, friends and loved ones is hard to shake. I can almost hear him say “it’s part of life, man” and I know that he would want us all to celebrate him as best we could.
It was an honor to know him, and to get to play a few songs with him over the years. It’s my understanding that a lot of folks will be joining Lewis McGehee at The Tradewinds in Virginia Beach tonight as a way to say goodbye. If you can make it out, be sure to have a Grand Marnier as a toast to a wonderful man that gave his all to the local music scene, and who will be always remembered and missed, Michael McCarthy.
The Baddadz return to Virginia Beach and Froggie’s Cantina this Friday night. Our last visit there brought out guests Lee Spicer, Vaughn Deel, Robbie House, and a host of others. This is one of our favorite gigs in town – we hope to see you all there.
